The federal lawsuit brought by Mexico lists who’s who of the firearms industry:

Smith & Wesson Brands, Inc.

Barrett Firearms Manufacturing, Inc.
Beretta USA Corp.

Baretta Holdings SPA
Colt’s Manufacturing Co., Inc.
Glock, Inc.
Glock Ges. M.B.H.
Sturm Ruger & Co., Inc.
WITMER PUBLIC SAFETY GROUP, INC. d/b/a Interstate Arms
CENTURY INTERNATIONAL ARMS, INC.

The complaint reads like a political act attempting to hold the arms manufacturers liable for a drug cartel violence epidemic. It remains to be seen what will come out of this litigation and whether we will see settlements like the large tobacco and opioid cases yielded. Mexico’s approach to hold the arms manufacturers liable is genuinely American in that it takes them to court and adds to a long tradition of political litigation in the United States.
